I fished the A.M. tide change (-.7 as I remember) on the SW shore of Whidbey
Sunday.
Very little indication of fish until I started tossing an olive/grizzly
popper, which resulted in follows or swirls on every 2-3 casts, until the
sun hit the water.
Pretty good activity continued for the first hour of the flood on a
candlefish pattern fished on an intermediate sink line.
C & R consisted of a mixture of SRC and "jack size" coho ranging from 3"-15"
with two follows by mature coho ( 6-7# estimated).
Only jumpers observed were impressive . . . in the 10# + range, but they
were never tempted to the fly.
Spent the afternoon scouting around. There was a zoo around the bait house
at Possession, both on the beach and on the water.
Went out on the spit (very short name . . . started with an 'A') South of
Deception on the E. side for the change at high tide.
Zero action there.
Return trip was interesting in that there was a gathering of Harley
enthusiasts in Anacortes, creating quite a spectacle on the highways.
Choppers everywhere! One of my colleagues (yes, a chopper riding teach)
took part and confirmed that there were 12,000 in attendance.
