Steve,
A good beach in the PT area is a place called Government Cut. It's the
channel between the mainland and Indian Island. Follow the signs to Fort
Flagler State Park and you can either park just across the bridge on the
island side or continue down a little farther to a day use only park and
park there, this is where I normally park. There are a is one other beach,
but it's a little trickey to give directions to. If you don't mind, maybe we
can hook up (no pun intended) while you're here and fish for awhile. Contact
me off the list if you would like to get together. I would contact the Port
Townsend Angler, their phone number is 360-379-3763 and their email is

If you tie your own flies, a good pattern is called the Jim Dandy, the
recipe is:
Hook: #8 2-3x long
Cone head
Tail: cream/peachy/pale yellow marabou with a few strands of pearl
flashabou NOTE: Any one of theese colors will work.
Body: leaded(optional), flat silver tinsel with orange floss over tinsel
Rib: copper wire
NOTE: Between body and cone head there is a dubbing ball. The cone head
fits over the dubbing ball. The dubbing ball is: Sunset Orange SLF.

There is a picture of this fly at PT Angler's web site the address is:
http://www.olypen.com/ptangler/shopping/shopcartpage.htm scroll down to the
bottom of the page. This is a local pattern that was developed by one of the
owners of the shop.

The Angel Hair Clouser is another good pattern
Hook: #6
Under wing: pearl green Angel Hair
Over wing: Peacock Angle Hair
Eyes: Chrome Dumbell

PT Anlger sells both of these patterns, so if you don't tie you can still
get them.

Hope this helps,
Darin
