More than a simple web page, our initial vision of the site includes a variety of additional features and areas to add real functionality that the list can simply not offer, including:
Fishing partners - Line up fishing partners
Pictures - how big WAS that fish anyway?
Links - Weather, water conditions, manufacturers, etc.
Marketplace - buy & want ads
Tying bench - archive of fly patterns, recipes and photos
Mailing list archives
Getting the site designed, built and hosted is the easy part (IF we can all stop fishing long enough to get it done!) But since any web site is only as valuable as its content is timely, the real challenge is going to be keeping it up to date.
[If you haven't checked out http://www.washingtonlakes.com, here's a good example of a site that one poor soul updates weekly as a labor of love. I for one spend enough time building and updating web sites for a living as it is. Any extra time (how's that for an oxymoron?) I'd really rather spend fishing.]
Over the past few months, Wes and I have wrestled over exactly how (and WHO) will be responsible for collecting and posting up the latest pictures, updating links or a database.
Until we get that figured out (Wes is away on vacation this week), I/we would appreciate your thoughts on what you'd like to see in a site. Please forward them to me offline at mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
I'd also appreciate hearing from any of you who may have image editing, database, html or ASP programming experience and would be interested in volunteering to help with the heavy lifting to get the site up and keep it fresh.
Thanks,
Kent Lufkin
Is there a website in the process of being built for this group? I've heard rumors and what not but nothing concrete. Is there an interest from fellow members of having a website where we can post pics, Flies, etc. online for others to see?
IF so I can build the page no prob.
Justin
