Hey Keith,

I hope you took a garbage can with you and dropped it off for all those bait containers those guys leave behind. I also stopped up there on Saturday just to take a gander, What a mess. I didn't see anyone playing a fish but I did see two dark steelhead on the bank and they were dark. I found that steelhead do darken up quite a bit when in the river for extended periods before spawn, even more so when hit in the head with a rock. I fished at c-post for an hour with out even a tug although I ran into  one other fly-guy who had claimed he had released three Dollies. Dead chums everywhere. The river was looking like its old self with higher  water levels and some color, with that in mind the winter fish should start coming in soon.
I just got my developed Y2K fishing pictures and hope to have them scanned to disk and I would like to post them here if I can figure out how to do so.

Oh by the way Keith I have a picture of and for you with a chromer in hand, Nice steelhead.

Whats going on at the Pilchuck?

Tight lines,

Patrick

I stopped by Fortson Friday morning(Dec. 1) on my way to work. I counted 51 guys fishing on both sides of the river. In the time it took me to drink a cup of coffee I saw 4 or 5 steelhead landed and a few more lost. I didn't see anything that looked like a winter run. Most fish were pretty dark and would have made excellent crab bait.
The mood of the river definitely changes when it goes to gear. Oh well, December is a good month to chase dollies on the Skagit.
Does anyone in the group have much success with winter hatchery fish on the Stilly? I admit that when the winter fish show I usually chuck gear at them and don't bring out the fly rod again until the natives are in the river.
