While I would say that the first picture appears to be a Dolly Varden, the
second certainly seems to have at least the spotting pattern that would be
more typical of a coastal cutthroat than a steelhead, it would be hard to
say without closer examination. It is possible that it is a resident
rainbow. Most of our coastal streams have very small surviving  populations
of native rainbows similar to the redside rainbows of the interior. These
fish are more commonly encountered in the late summer when lack of water
drives them down out of the smaller tributaries into the main river. Perhaps
the extreme dry conditions that have prevailed this winter have had a
similar effect.
