Well I figured the Yakima might be coming in according to the reports
I¹ve read so I called my friend Guy and we headed over on Sunday morning.
Called several friends to get a third in the boat but to no avail. Got on
the river by 11: 30 after leaving the trailer at Red¹s for the pick-up and
put in at Bighorn. Four or Five boats on the water and maybe twenty to
twenty five bank fisherman.
Started out the day with a #10 bead headed prince and a #14 bead headed
pheasant tail below it. Didn¹t change the set up till my Lamson bit the
dust after the third fish. Switched to my 6 wt and slim lined a black
bugger but the wind picked and Guy had to start rowing downstream to get us
to the take out. Needless to say that ended our fishing for the day but it
was 3 by then and we were getting off the river by 4 anyway.
Had the first fish on before 12:30 and that was the first fish of the
year and broke my fishless streak of about 4 or 5 months. All three fish
took the bead headed prince and of course I got one hit by a big¹un that got
away. All nice fish between 14 and 18 inches and very healthy looking.
Great day on the river till the wind did us in. No hatches to speak of, did
see a couple fish jump, but no rising fish that I saw.
My Lamson DCA-3 became a dragless wonder when the plastic center of the
drum that connects to the spool disconnected itself and my reel became a
freewheel. I always try to carry a spare rod and reel and this is the second
Did I mention the wind? Worst I¹ve ever seen. We actually got blown
back upstream and Guy had his hands getting us down the river. Lucky for me
he¹s been doing this for 25 or so years and he made it look pretty easy but
he still had to row like hell. All in all I can¹t wait to get back over
there again..

Tight lines my friends,
 Charlie
