To answer your question, yes and no. Several years back The Maryland DNR
did a study on hook retention, hook type and barbed vs barbless.
Researchers hooked striped bass in the throat and retained them for 60 days
in one study and 120 in another. For complete information and the finding
look at the Sept/Oct 1995 issue of Sport Fishing (send me your fax number
and I will forward you a copy). For an objective review of the study query
the 1996 Flyfish archives at

"cadmium". When the search is completed look at the first article titled
