The high lakes are not for the timid. ;o) I liken them to backcountry
telemark skiing where you "earn your turns"...with high lake fishing you
definitely earn your fish.

Looking at the map is one thing but actually getting there appears to
require some serious hiking.
Using the Topo! map CDs, the trail from Chiwaukum (a few miles north
of Leavenworth on SR 2) up Chiwaukum Creek, past Chiwaukum Lake to
Larch lake at 6078 feet elevation looks to be about 10.9 miles with a
net elevation gain of 4258 feet.
