Hi all,

I ran across the list archive and thought that it would be worth getting and
staying in touch!

As a quick intro I am a native Washingtonian that's fished all of my life,
but the fly fishing thing has only been serious since 1991. I currently live
in Seattle. I fly fish for trout mostly (lakes and rivers) and occasionally
for salmon and steelhead (full disclosure would require me to admit here
that I still throw a lot of hardware and bait for salmon and steelhead...)

Before the birth of my daughter (3+) years ago I was fishing both BC and WA
lakes, as well as WA, ID, and MT rivers. In more recent years I have toned
back on the BC trips (from 10-15 days/year to 0). I still get out to the WA
lakes (all of the usual suspects) and throw in a week on ID or MT rivers for
variety. Occasional trips to the Yakima and Rocky Ford supplement the moving
water trout experiences.

For anadromous fish I consider the Sol Duc and Calawah my home waters, as my
in-laws have lived there since the early 60's (father-in-law fished with Syd
Glasso) and it makes for a great weekend get away's with the family.

As for the Deschutes - fished about 3 hours on Saturday below Sherar Fall's
(12:30-3:30) Weather was cloudy with occasional squalls. The salmon flies
appear to have long since moved up stream (no evidence of cases on the rocks
or adults in the trees and the river was relatively devoid of anglers), but
there were a lot of size 12/14 caddis waiting for evening. I was hoping to
see more mayflies, but no luck there. I fished a dry salmonfly with a dry
mayfly cripple dropper, but quickly cut off the dropper as the smolts were
attacking it with gusto. The Salmonfly pattern brought up a fish about every
15 minutes (mostly takes, but some refusals.)

This was my first time on the Deschute's and I was surprised by the leaping
ability of the redsides, but the larger fish were still fresh out of spawn
and were pretty spent, so no great line ripping tails (tales?). I still have
to rate the Missouri fish as the hottest fish in the west.

I look forward to reading and sharing more reports in the future.

PS: I especially look forward to reading the promised Henry's
Fork/Yellowstone reports, as the family vacation this year is June 28th -
July 7th in the West Yellowstone/Henry's Fork area (base camp at Staley's
Spring on Henry's Lake.)
