I just returned from three days on Rock Creek near Clinton, Montana.
The fishing was a bit slower than usual. I did manage to land several
nice rainbows, browns, and cutts. One member of our fishing party
landed and released a large bull-trout. Water temps reached 60 degrees
by mid afternoon. We only fished morning and late evening to avoid
stressing the fish during the hottest part of the day. I took trout on
PMD cripples, duns, and spinners, as well as caddis and yellow sallies.
I was able to nymph up several good trout on a San Juan Worm. If you're
going to go, go soon or go later in the fall; I have the feeling that
Rock Creek will close to fishing by the end of the month or maybe August
due to high water temps. Jeff Hale
