My finacee rented a cabin for my birthday out on San Juan island at a resort with three private lakes. I had read that they stocked a couple of the lakes with kamloops rainbows so I was pretty excited to fish. Little did i know they stock it with 5000 fingerlings a year and with a resident bass population the plant amounts to little more than expensive bass food. Caught some decent size bass the first night and other than some strong takes I was less than impressed. No rainbows to be had so I decided to go salmon fishing. Fished a couple beaches on the west side of the island and had a few takes but nothing stuck. The most promising beach looked to be the american camp beach but the tide was going out and the flow wasnt really conducive to beach fishing. Saw some large fish jumping out in the distance but really didnt have a chance at anything. Headed back to the cabin and found out about a little fished lake on the property that was only allowed to be fished by those renting cabins so I decided to give it a shot. My partner was immediately into 10-13 inch bows on bead head damsel imitations. I finally got into to them as well and would have say that pound for pound they were the strongest fish I have ever hooked into. First time I have ever had an 11 inch fish strip some fly line off the spool. Needless to say they saved the trip. Overall a good time even though the fishing was less than spectacular. On the ferry ride back we were intercepted by a big pod of orca which was very cool. The ferry had to stop for 20 minutes to let them pass. -sean Get 250 color business cards for FREE! http://businesscards.lycos.com/vp/fastpath/
