Sean,
A better bet for flyfishers on West Whidbey is to drive past Bush
Point to South Whidbey State Park and taking the trail down to the
beach. When you stand on the beach, face the water, and look left,
you'll see that you can walk all the way to Bush Point if you'd like.
More than likely, you will run into feeding silvers before you get
there.
A little less than halfway is a large rock that is painted white on
the side facing Bush Point. Years ago, Dennis - the owner of the boat
launch, would tell his customers to troll around the kelp beds near
the "painted rock." It's still true. Forget the crowds and get to
where there isn't any flying lead to put the fish down. At the low
tides, you'll find bait in the kelpbeds which, by the way, are a lot
easier to reach with a popper than at high tides.
On saturday, some friends, one of whom lurks on this list, were there
and hammered 'em. They went back Sunday and nobody was home. . . so
it goes. Maybe Earl will break email silence and give the list a
report on his, Scott's and Dennis' Whidbey weekend.
You might also consider a pontoon boat launced at South Whidbey.
Don't think about launching at Bush unless you want to be in Everett
or Port Townsend for dinner.
Leland.
