Long time no post for me. I have been reading a lot but not fishing due to
a needed re-plenishing of my supplies from a robbery and the loss of a
couple rods and reels few months ago. Good news (for me) is I'm gear'd up
again and have been out on the water!

Labor day weekend we headed up to a buddy's cabin on Christina Lake, BC
which is just over the border due north of Spokane. We floated a very low
Kettle river about 15km up from Christina lake down to about 11km (~ a 3
hour float). 4 of us hooked quite a few fiesty bows on nymphs and dries,
but the Nymphs on a fast sink tip worked out the best.

It was a pleasure to fish for some of these 11-13" bows up until I tossed on
the black wolley bugger and fished deep into a well-fished hole and hooked
into something much bigger than expected. After a few minutes trying not to
snap my light tippet I pulled in a 5 lb smallmouth! Holy smokes bass stink!
;) It was my first bass on a fly as I rarely put myself into a situation
where I would have a chance for one, but it was a fun experience pulling a
"sport" fish of that size out of a dry river like the Kettle. The bad news
is that I released the fatty...

The Kettle fishes well and is a great easy float this time of year. It was
suprisingly good as I knew little about it before my visit. As the girl
stuffin' the ice cream freezer at the lumber yard told me: "there are 26
different species of fish in Christina Lake". Sounds like a fishery to me.

It was a great time on the water when I was there, and if you find yourself
up there certainally take some time to wet the line.

Brian
