Took my two year old son out to find some spawning salmon yesterday.
Headed over to Illabot Creek near Rockport to check out the new spawning
channel that has been constructed. There wasn't enough water in the channel
for any fish to use it yet but in Illabot Creek we saw hundreds(maybe
thousands) of humpies. They were everywhere.
Afterwards we went over and talked to a worker at the Cascade hatchery. He
said they estimate that over 40,000 pinks have already gone up Illabot. He
also said the spawning channel would be used more by coho and chum as
there will be more water(hopefully) during their spawning time. It should
be a good place to easily view spawning salmon.
The only fishing we did yesterday was with the Snoopy rod and rubber
fished tied to the end of the line.

Sincerely

Keith
