Scooted out to the Yakima for a few hours of fishing (from 1 pm to 4 pm),
and fished the Canyon on Sunday, 10/21/01.

The blue-wing olives are still out in strong numbers, and I found podded-up
fish that worked them heavily during the height of the 'hatch'. Tossing a
#18 BWO sparkle dun out on the water was like rolling a wine bottle down an
alley near Pioneer Square; needless to say, it wouldn't get very far before
it was consumed. No big fish to hand; nearly all the fish were in the
10-13" range, and were chunky and spunky (no, this not a reference to Bill
Hamilton!). I hooked into a couple of larger, head-shakin' fish, but
unfortunately lost them. I also noticed what appeared to be mahogany duns
(??) and tricos popping off at the tail end of the BWO hatch.

The fish were very aggressive with their takes; if you go, don't forget to
take your hemostats, as the fish will take 'em deep! Take extra flies, too,
to rotate out your water-logged fly with a fresh fly, or to replace.

I talked to a couple of other fisherpersons as I was leaving, who had fished
a few other spots on the river, and the consensus was the BWO action was
pretty much throughout the Canyon stretch of the river. A little exploring
is needed to find that really hot spot . . .
