I'm sure there must
be a few list members that know bamboo rods inside and out, so here's my
situation.
Years ago at a yard
sale I found a 3-piece 9' bamboo rod that I bought for $5. The thing is
BEAT. It appears to be about a 5 wt., maybe 6 and has an old Danielson
label on it. Now, I know about Danielson nowadays, they make subpar
bait-chuckin' gear... but if I recall correctly I think I've heard that they
used to be a real quality outfit. Can anyone give any history on the
Danielson Co. and their bamboo rods?
Okay, next
question... the individual sections appear to be a little bit warped - not too
bad though. Has anyone ever undertaken straightening bamboo that has
warped over time? I imagine that it may be like straightening willow
shafts for arrows. Any insights here would be super.
I'm considering
stripping the whole thing down, removing the old crummy real seat, and
rebuilding it. I won't ask for instructions here - I'll be sure to get one
of two good books that have already been recommended to me. I just wonder
what some of your opinions might be on whether or not I'm wasting my
time.
Thanks in
advance!
