Here is what I've heard over the years fishing over the border and most of it makes sense. Kamloops and Gerrards exhibit different physical and feeding characteristics. Both are distinctively different in their origin and get confused. Kamloops come out of Thompson Nicola (sp?) area, Gerrard to the east as previous described. Gerrards are sometime planted in "Kamloops" area lakes to diminish trashfish. There is one of the main differences. Supposedly Kamloops never graduate to big protein staying with a pure insect diet. (that said Kamloops love a sculpin pattern!) Gerrards on the other hand after their first 1 1/2 to 2 yrs go after anything that swims and they can swallow, thus the size difference.
I've noticed a distinct color differentiation. There have been reports in the past by list members describing experiences in Fawn, Lac de Roche and Sheridan area lakes, so I'm not exposing any new waters. When fishing these lakes the coloration and build of the Gerrard fish is distinctly different from the surrounding smaller lakes. Lac de Roche and Fawn have planted Gerrards. Sheridan, which grows nice big Kamloops and the smaller excellent lakes in the surrounding area are planted with the Kamloops trout that you typically see in the Kamloops area and south.
My two cents gathered from campfire lore, scotch with friends and a few books...
