We spent another saturday watching the humpies on the Skykomish, at the
2-bit hole.
And yes the operative word is/was watch. OK, we had rods in our hands,
but even with the greatest of care we quickly learned that snagging the
big males was inevitable.
So we Stopped trying and started learning, the ways of the river and the
fish, on this rare opportunity of so many fish in such shallow water. We
could see where they choose to hold, what channels they passed through,
where they spawned and where the males and females grouped separately.
I know I learned a lot more in those few hours than I have from all the
books I've bought and cherish. And yes, it's help me to better
understand what the authors have been trying to tell me. Once again I am
reminded that I catch more fish by watching and learning than by blindly
casting.
To bad so many of us get old enough to learn so late in life.
Just another beautiful day on the river.
I am getting old but I am a Learnin,
Girgje
