What is this yuppie crap!  It is a stereotype that deserves no consideration.  It is the same thing as saying a Black fisherman or Asian fisherman.

There are those that say talking about flyfishing over the internet is a"Yuppie" thing to do.  So welcome to the club.

If your son profiles individuals by the car they drive, he is as guilty of profiling as any policemen/women that does it for racial reasons.

If your jealous of folks making and having money, that is your issue.

If you don't like snotty people, that is fine, not many folks do.  Don't type cast, it leads down a dangerous and ugly road!

Regards

Subject: Re: Discussing public waters

I fully agree with Mike Wilson.  I found out about Crab Creek while discussing fishing areas in general with a fellow who was overseeing the installation of rip-rap and logs against an outside bank upstream from the Ringer access on the Yakima about a year and a half ago.  He told me that the pictures of huge trout being taken out of a creek which are posted on a very popular website out of Ellensburg were taken on the upper Crab Creek.  I have not had the privilege of fishing it yet, but it has been openly discussed in flyshops, i.e., report boards, F&H news, etc.  I think also that the reason many of the landowners have sold out is because of the abuse that many un-thoughtful fisherpersons have heaped upon the land.  I have packed out loads and loads of garbage from almost every stream I have fished on.  But then w! e see that on every highway we drive, don't we?  I see three big problems with the flyfishing scene.  1. Sheer numbers of flyfishers for diminishing spots to fish.   2. Not leaving the place cleaner than we found it, thus giving the sport a bad name   3. A large number of what I call "yuppie" flyfishers who think that they can do anything they want just because they drive the fancy cars, have the best rods, and top of the line equipment.  What they lack, and this is speaking only in general, is good common sense.  Many I have met give me the impression that because of their money they are better than me.  My son, who is a police officer, often comments that when stopped, these "yuppie" types just sneer at him and say, upon presentation of say a speeding ticket, "is that all it is?"
I have been flyfishing for over 40 years.  Things will never be the same as they once were.  But we can still bring class to the sport.  And it starts with how we act, and interact with the people we talk to, whether on the stream, on the phone, or via email.
