Speaking of Bamboo rods, whatever became of George Gherke's run of Bastard rods?
For those of you not familiar with the saga, George laid claim that he could build a high quality bamboo rod for around $300.00. He is quite the character and was easily antagonized by the vermin on the Recreation Outdoor Fly Fishing newsgroup. Once he made this claim they really held his feet to the fire to produce a hand made rod for that amount. To make a long story short, George did actually buy all the equipment and was producing them for a bit out of his factory on the Snake River. I heard varying levels of quality and he ended up having to up his prices after the initial first run. Not sure how many of the quality complaints were ego related vs. real. ROFF is not nearly as forgiving or light hearted as our list. Mike
