Hello Michael:

I moved  here last year and was looking for good water to fish only for trout.

Well still fish for local native trout, and got hooked on big stellhead.
I would recommended cool book on fishing streams/lakes in the state.

Book is : Flyfisher's Guide to Washington by Greg Thomas cost $26 but is great book by great Fly fisher.

Also book my Email adress , in Spring we can try some of my local waters, very nice and remote , for nice native trout , they run about 8-14" but using 1-3 weight rod it's lot of fun. I live near Norh Band in town of Issaquah 20 min from Seattle.

Anyway welcome in Washington and have great time fishing.

Hi Rex

Welcome aboard.  I'm a few miles south of you in Lake
Oswego, OR.

It sounds like you are mostly interested in trout but
in the Longview/Kelso area you have easy access
to a number of excellent steelhead streams.  The
Kalama is probably the closest.  Route 4 west from
Longview will take you past a number of good streams
including the Elochoman.  If you are going to live in
Longview/Kelso you are going to have to become a
steelhead fisherman or they may run you out of town.

I don't fish the streams in SW Washington for trout
can't supply much info on small trout streams.  But I
would certainly explore that area.  A "Washington
Atlas and Gazetteer" should probably be your first
purchase.

You are reasonably close to two good lakes...Cold
Water and Merrill.  Both have some reasonable
fly fishing.

The Clark-Skamania Flyfishers are located in Vancouver.
I think hey are affiliated with the Fly Fishing Federation, but
I'm not sure about Trout Unlimited.  They have a web page
at http://www.clark-skamania-flyfishers.org/.
