Gary:

I have a 13' Aire Super Puma with a FF frame, that I purchased after much research. I am very pleased with it. I would be happy to share my experience with you.

I can't help you with any advice on the mermaids! Fortunately I have a great wife who I have not needed to upgrade... in fact I hope she doesn't upgrade me!  :)

Subject: Re: Flyfishing Christmas wish list

Good topic, as usual, Kent.

1. A nicely-appointed, self-bailing 13' raft. I've got a perfectly good 13' Achilles that's lasted me 10 years but i covet a self-bailing floor for whitewater and general comfort (no water perpetually slogging around in the bottom of the boat).

2. Your #1. Self-explanatory

3. Your # 2. Self-explanatory

4. Your # 7. I would LOVE to screw around Wyoming/Montana/Idaho/Alberta for about 5 weeks in the summer and fall.

Other than that, I've got all the spouse and rods I need. I've given up on patience and wisdom. The mermaid has potential.

Willy's Ultimate Rod Assortment post got me thinking about what I'd REALLY like for Christmas.  OK, so the WAFF list isn't Santa Claus, but maybe if I wish really hard, some of these will actually come true!

1. Casting lessons. I'm not bad, but I could certainly be better. Bet I could benefit from a couple hours with a pro.

2. Saltwater experience. Think I'm finally ready to expand my horizons and give Puget Sound SRCs and salmon a try. A week chasing bonefish in the Seychelles would be even better.

3. A bamboo rod. A little number about 7 or 8 feet in a 3 or 4 weight and under $750 would be perfect.

4. Patience. I'm unusually calm once I get out on the water - it's the times in between that can really be trying.

5. A more understanding spouse. She's simply not buying my tired argument that time spent fishing makes me a better person.

6. Wisdom. At this rate, about the time I finally get it, I'll be dead.

7. Time. Speaking of which, there's simply not enough of it.

8. A mermaid. I'd love to catch one. I'll release her, honest!

Happy holidays and may all your wishes come true,

Kent Lufkin
