Jeez, I feel some magazine-guilt coming on here.  Here's my list of my current subscriptions, in descending order of preference.

Fly Fisherman
Fly Fishing and Fly Tying
Fly Fishing Saltwaters
Saltwater Fly Fishing
Fly Tyer

I, too, very much enjoy Probasco's Northwest Fly Fishing magazine, but it's a wee bit steep in cost relative to the other magazines.  The cost of buying it from the newsstand is nearly the same as subscribing, so I just buy it from the local fly shops.  In that way, I support him AND the shop - two fer one!  Ditto with his Southwest Fly Fishing (which, contrary to the magazine's title, has many articles on fishing in Colorado, Utah, etc.).  I also feel similarly to Fish and Fly in here, on a buy-it-over-the-counter-if-that-issue-is-interesing basis, but it's not quite in the same tier as Steve's magazines.  Where can I get a print of that current issue cover, so I can frame it and hang it in my office to day dream . . . about fishing, of course!

I find that in Fishing and Hunting news, in nearly each issue, has at least one wee article or a map in which I have interest, but to me there just isn't enough content (fly fishing) to justify a subscription.

Fly Rod & Reel, I like it and don't like it.  Being a self-professed gear junkie, what I like about it is the equipment reviews (usually done by Ted Leeson, a Northwest person).  He usually tells it like it is.  The other component I like about it is the entomology discussions/articles, and the Joan Wulff casting articles.

The free rag Fly Fish America is pretty darn good, particularly at no cost.  I enjoy their gear reviews, and the writers have a fun writing style.  However, ever notice that there wasn't ever a piece of equipment reviewed by them that they didn't like?  Gotta be that way, I guess, to keep those product advertising dollars rolling in to keep the magazine free!  They did a great job in their analysis last year in their issue where they reviewed the various travel 5 weight rods.  And, the hot-off-the-presses current issue, if you haven't seen it (I picked up a couple yesterday at the Orvis store in Bellevue) have reviews on large arbor reels and travel 8 weight rods.  In my opinion, it appears they again did a great job in testing and analyzing the products.

Sorry for the excessive typing . . . enough already!
