I have my first real crack at going steelhead fishing since my knee surgery
and would like to tap the combined knowledge of the group to improve my
chances. Here is the scenario I will be up against.

I will be fishing a small tributary stream off of the Snake River. The
hatchery is located about half way up the river so the steelhead are holding
in the lower portions of the stream. This stream is narrow, only about 25
feet wide at its widest point. Most of the stream is about 15 feet across.
The water is traditional pocket water and where there are pools, they tend to
be somewhat deep.

How would you go about fishing this stream and can somebody give me the
basics on winter steelhead such as how their behavior differs once they
hunker down for the winter vs. when they are on the move? What patterns
would you suggest and how would go about fishing this stream as there aren't
a lot of places for the down and across drifts?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Mike
