While I was wasting my time at craft stores searching out inferior beads, seems to me I noticed they sell silca in big bags which some people use to preserve flowers.
There's some other stuff Loon makes called Easy Dry with little blue crystals that turn pink when the stuff is saturated. I make little tinfoil trays and put it in the oven for a while to dry it out and then use it over. In our damp wetside climate, it's important to quickly put it back in the vial or it will suck moisture right out of the air and the crystals will turn pink again. I believe you can do the same with silca. It just doesn't have the little blue crystals, so you'd have to guess when it was saturated. Or take along a couple vials.
