I have had the same experience, just never thought about it when putting down the reasons why I prefer UL reel seats.  Remember a time years ago when the reel flipped off.  Have you ever sat in a boat retrieving 90' of line and some 250 yards of backing to get to the reel.  Took me a pretty good chunk of fishing time to get that one straightened around.  After that, when fishing with a DL Reel, I would wrap a couple of rubber bands around the reel seat just forward of the top ring so it couldn't move enough to lose the reel.  I think I only have two rods now with DL reel seats, and they are pretty much never fished.  Thanks for the reminder.
