Andy, based on your statement about combat fishing I could give you a 
suggestion. i wouldn't normally recommend it because it isn't a classic fly 
fishing experience but you should try Purdy creek on the Hood Canal around 
mid july through mid august. I caught many chinook on that little 
creek/river this past summer. The water usually runs very clear which brings 
out the gear fishermen and the snaggers but there is usually a stretch or 
two where you can get away from the crowds and still have a good number of 
fish to cast at. I might be a couple of weeks off with my time frame but my 
fishing journal is not here at my house so I am going off memory. Good luck
