I don't know about the handicap fish, but I did
have an encounter with a rattlesnake. Just a note to all, watch
out!!!. Last weekend when I was walking down the path heading back form
the rapid section towards the bridge I had an encounter with a rattlesnake that
was about 4ft. long and did not want to budge from the trail. I was
walking along when I heard the distinct sound of a rattle. Even
though I had never encountered a rattle snake I still knew to stop in
my tracks immediately. I paused for a moment and slowly turned my head
towards the sound. The snake was about a foot away from me to my
right. It was a stare down!! He wan't going to move and I sure in
the hell wasn't going to either. I stood still for over a minute. He
never coiled but rattled about every 5 seconds. Finally, I figured
since he was not coiled he could not strike at me, so I bolted away from him
back towards the direction I came. That was the end of the
encounter, but it took me awhile to get my heart rate down. I had my ears
and eyes wide open when I made the trek back to the truck.
The scary part of this whole experience is that my
wife and son walked down the trail about 5 minutes before I did. My
little boy is two and loves to throw rocks and pick flowers and
weeds. Thank god he didn't wander near this snake. I know
I'm not taking my boy here anytime soon!!!!!! Just thought the group
would find this information useful. Be careful all!
