I have not noted any spam as a result of my list membership. I'm concerned that if there was a newsgroup that mirrored the email list, email address harvesters would be grabbing my (and everyone else's) email address and spamming me.
Sean, am I off here? Wouldn't we be susceptible to this type of email address harvesting if we were posting to a newsgroup format? That's not my area of expertise but I recall reading about it somewhere. thx. In reviewing the survey results and reading list comments, there appears to 66% majority in favor of leaving things as they are. I want to state my opinion for change. If we don't, this same issue will rise from the dead on every full moon. I enjoy opening my email and reading the banter on this list. Some is quirky, but that is just the personality of the list. Asking folks to participate differently will change its personality. By exercising option 2, we can have out cake and eat it as well (Sean who has volunteered to do the baking). Those of us that don't mind the number of emails and have the facilities to handle them will be able to do so. Those who don't like the banter or don't have the facilities to handle the number of mail items will be able to browse the messages of their choice on the web based BB system. With this type of system everyone will still be able to contribute. That would be a good! Knowledge is something you share, even though I still cant give away the name of Kents lake. This list does a excellent job of that (along with some banter). >From the comments made, most folks don't want Sean to go to the hassles of setting up the web site to enable option 2. It will be a lot of work. If anyone is aware of that fact, Im sure Sean is. Sean, you have made the offer and I vote to take you up on it. My sympathies to you Neil. You can go to http://www.waflyfishers.com/pages/how.html and unsubscribe. As the number of posts per day has increased so has the number of people like Neil who have decided to opt out. The problem is that there is a small number of people here who seem to suffer from what the psychs would call histrionic disorder. The people who are posting several times every day responding to every other post without having very much to contribute should take the time to look this up. Think of it this way; if there are 300 members of this list and everyone posted 3 times a day then this list will be unbearable for everyone; not just a few. Please have some consideration for others.
