Just got back from a 5 day, 2000 mile trip. Fishing was not the sole purpose (at least according to the wife) but it was pretty high on my list of priorities. My friend had aspirations of hitting the damsel hatch at Henry's lake. The reports were poor but we were going anyway. We stayed at the (free) county park next to Staley springs. Everyone we talked to said fishing was the worst ever, having to work hard all day for a fish. People were taking winterkill. We tried the next morning for an hour and I had enough. We decided to head for the hills, solitude and small, feisty trout which came readily to the dry fly. We wound up catching 4 kinds of cutthroat, brook, brown, and rainbow trout and we were also rewarded with some grayling. All this from 4 creeks, one river and a lake and we hardly ever fished with another angler. Occasionally we would stop at the Henry's fork or the South fork just to take a look and remind ourselves why we were not fishing there. We probably could have done almost as well both for both numbers and size on a real good day on the Yakima but we never would come close to catching the various species nor could we have fished within view of the Tetons. All in all, a great trip with great company.
