I really enjoy fly fishing in the surf and along
jetties (fished Mission Bay jetty in April and nailed Calico Bass in the kelp).
Also had good luck with croakers in the surf holes in Huntington
Beach north of the river jetty. Great places to fish along there. There's a
magazine size small book (only about 46 pgs) called "Surf Zone" (long name is
"Ken Hanley's Fly Fishing Afoot in the Surf Zone...A Field Guide to WA, OR, CA
and N. Baja"). It's very concise...some technique description, species sampler
w/ appropriate fly types listed, fly pattern recipes and angling tips for the
flies, gear recommendations, knots/rigging, and a beach habitat guide for the
whole west coast, from San Quintin in Baja to Mukkaw Bay on the Olympic
Peninsula. It's an Amato pub.
