I suppose someone could label me as the type you describe below. I have recently posted two reports where I did not give exact details of location. One was from Idaho. I figured if someone wanted more information, they could have done it privately. The other location I felt too small to provide names of the creeks.
Most people have different expectations of their flyfishing experiences. Some won't fish an area if they don't have a legitimate chance of hooking a trophy. Others are looking for solitude and method rather than size of fish. I still feel a report can be beneficial without disclosing the exact location. Things to be taken from a report is the size of fish, what you caught it on, river flows, temperature, clarity, methods, and general location. For example, in one of my reports I mentioned how impressed I was with the fishing in most mountain streams since the adoption of more selective regulations throughout the state. This might be enough to get someone who has never tried stream fishing to give it a shot. I tried to give an accurate account of the details (wading through brush and losing many flies while catching small to medium fish on dries). Someone might say "that is my style of fishing" while someone else may say "that is certainly not for me". Still yet, someone else might say, "I'll would never fish there anyway but I enjoy reading about someone else doing it". Your right Ross, you probably would not make an impact on any particular waterbody. But with that 100 page long list there might be 1 or a dozen who might make a drastic impact to the resource. Sincerely, David Duvall > I also mean no disrespect to anyone in the group, but it seems to me the purpose of a report is to share specific information; the where, when and how of a successful outing. Without the details it just sounds like empty boasting to me, the only purpose of which is to feed the authors ego, and/or taunt the less accomplished/experienced anglers in the group. If all someone wants to report is "I caught a bunch of big fish on dry flies and had the river to myself all weekend and I'm not going to tell you where" what does the waflyfishers community get out of it? > > I enjoyed Dave's report on the Sanpoil and was glad he shared his success with the group. I'll definitely add this river to my list of "places to check out if you are ever in the area". Since the list is about 100 pages long I don't believe I'll make to large of an impact on the resource....... > > Ross
