My name is Chris Backschies - I live in Seattle and work in the internet business. I have been a loyal follower of the list for close to two years now, but have only made one contribution to date. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the great info and entertaining stories I have enjoyed reading the past two years.
While I have been flyfishing now for close to 10 years, I very much consider myself a beginner in comparison to most of the contributors to this list. My knowledge of the jargon and equipment is somewhat limited in relation to how much time I spend on the water or the amount of time I spend thinking about being on the water when I am at work or doing anything other than fishing (for the most part).
Until now, I have been a trout fisherman exclusively and primarily fish the Yakima. However, this Fall I was was introduced to the SRC fishing on the Stilly by another member of the list. What a treat it is to be only 45 minutes from such a quality fishing experience. I am hoping to venture into more challenging fishing for bigger fish (steelhead, salmon) on some of the other west side rivers this winter/spring and plan to hit the desert lakes this year too.
Since I can't really contribute any stellar fishing reports or offer any keen advice about winter fishing, I will offer a recommended read for those of you who enjoy reading about flyfishing and a quick story related to a past thread re: fishing with your spouse. The recommended read is "Bush Pilot Angler: A Memoir" by Lee Wulff.
The story about fishing with your spouse is as follows: My wife has nicely turned down countless invitations to fish with me (I will keep asking), but she managed to surprise me at our wedding ceremony (yes, ceremony) by including a song from the movie "A River Runs Through It" as the bridesmaids came down the aisle - she is a great woman.
I am always open to fishing new waters with new fishing friends and promise to never quit early if invited on a trip :)
