I have taken my daughter to a small area near the Hyak exit off of 90. On
the north side of the freeway, there is a large area frequented by
snowmobilers and backcountry skiers. If you walk over the bridge and up the
forest service road 100 yds or so, there was a small run down off of the
road on the right. It twisted down a footpath. It had pint-sized bank turns
and small jumps (1' or so). It was perfect for a plastic saucer and a 5 yr
old.

Of course it was an old-fashioned run. No tow ropes, no safety cones, trees
on either side. Just a path and snow. I thought it was perfect.

If you are looking for a more "engineered" run, the Mountaineers have a
lodge and tubing run at Snoqualmie. Members and guests can ride the tubes
and use the toe rope.

Subject: Sledding -- Way Off Topic

Since we've talked fondly of children on this board
and, as fisherfolk, we spend a lot of time outdoors, I
was hoping maybe I could turn here for some advise.

Over the holidays we spent a few days in E.
Washington. My 3-year-old daughter got a chance to go
sledding a couple of times on an easy slope in a city
park. She got that look that fathers of 3 year olds
live for. You've seen it. The one that says "Lord,
you can take me now if you want 'cause nothing is ever
going to be better than this."

I'm looking for a good place for a similar adventure
somewhere between, say, North Bend and Cle Elum.

Any suggestions?

Thanks much,
--ken
