Patrick and I were up there last
weekend for a couple of days and pulled the plug and came home early. It was
the latest that I had been up there and I will not go that late again.
I landed about 5 trout Friday afternoon and five Saturday fishing until
mid-afternoon, all sight fishing with dry damsels, but the surface
water was hitting 70+ each afternoon, even up in the north end and algae mats
were starting to suspend and drift with the wind. The evening activity did not
turn on like I had banked on (although it could have been going in a
differnt part of the lake, but in the areas that I hit there was very little
rising going on.) There were still 'bows down in the south end and cruising
the banks during the middle of the day, but not in numbers that created
red hot fishing. I caught one small bow (the first in 5 days fishing at
Chopaka this year) and the rest were fat 16+" fish. Probably about time
someone queried the state biologists about what they think the planter
survival has been the last couple of years. Lots of bass, got a couple on top
and a couple with a small bugger, and I saw far more small bass than I
did small trout and in a few places almost as many large bass as trout. It
would take one heck of a bass fry at this point to put a meaningful dent in
their numbers...

that's a lot of help- seriously how do you think fishing would be- I
ain't going, gonna be at my daughters wedding. hate to see the guys

the kitsap fly anglers club is planning a trip to chopaka on the
week-end of july 19- was wondering if anyone has been there lately or
has fished the lake in mid july in the past. a concern I would
have is that the water level is down 2-3' from normal levels (on june 1)
& the water was fairly warm then in the south end (62 degrees at 15"
level) so I'm guessing it's gonna be really warm in mid july.
