I can't accurately guess the percentage of immigrant poachers to non-imigrant poachers. Nor am I able to determine if immigrants are to blame for most murders in Grant Co. I'm willing to bet, however, that more U.S. citizens commit crimes than aliens commit. I do know that most immigrants are here to work. Moreover, I speak to a ton of immigrants in Grant Co., as I enjoy practiciing my Spanish and meeting people from Latin America. Most experiences I have had have been very positive. One group of immigrant workers offered me the meat and tortillas they were cooking before eating it themselves. By the way, a lot of these immigrants have work Visas. Why do we let migrant workers into this country? At least partly, I believe, for the cheap labor that they provide which bolsters our economy significantly.
If you look back on the last two hundred years of U.S. history, you'll see a direct correlation between hard economic times and anger towards immigrants. Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants, for example, were all targets of attacks (physical and verbal) during earlier historic eras. All that aside, the bottom line is that our state is operating on too little money. Yes, providing law enforcement becomes a lesser priority to education and law enforcement of towns and cities during tough times. But, think of the money we would make on tourism, if we had anything like the quality lakes that B.C. has. The lakes are there. Many are off the main roads. These are mostly illegals killing other illegals, but it gives you an idea of how cheap life is to these folks. These are the folks that your dealing with in many cases out in the basin. Volunteers are a good idea where the law abiding public is the primary user. Campground volunteers are not set up to deal with violent or criminal behavior.
