My wife picked up a flyfishing book from the library by Lefty Kreh(I think it came out about 1997). In it he has a chapter on casting where he advocates a technique he says is totally different, but much better than traditional casting. It is aimed at people needing long casts and tight loops and involves reaching back to extend your cast. As he says, and I agree, short casts are easy and can be done with minimal skills, but when you try to make long accurate casts it tests your form and casting ability. I have been playing around with his techniques and have made some very long casts (for me), 90 feet or so with an 8 wt.with relative ease. Is what he recommends really that innovative or just a modification of old techniques? If it's so great has it been adopted by a lot of fishing experts?
