So the derby is on Sunday, not Saturday? I was thinking of taking my 
daughter out after the derby madness had died down a bit but it sounds 
like that'd be during the workweek instead.

I've been involved with the Sky Valley Chapter of TU for the last 
couple
of years on this (though they've been doing it for 3 or more years, I
believe), and it's part of their annual kids fishing derby.  The lake 
is
in the city of Monroe - it's a man-made lake south of the AM/PM on
Freylands.  The TU team puts nets along the South end of the lake and
fill 'em with trout (including triploids to 15lbs!)  They start the
kid's derby about 8:30 on the 25th of April, and it goes until 1:30 or
so.  Then they pull the nets up, releasing what fish haven't yet been
caught out into the main part of the lake.  For $10, you can enter the
ADULT derby (the kid's derby is free to all kids), and they have 
prizes
for the 3-4 biggest fish caught by a given time (usually about 4PM or
so).

It's a hoot!  The place looks like a bowl of Cherrios, as all the
floattubbers come out to play (you can have electric motors only).  
It's
a great place to take the kids, both for the derby and after.


I'd invite all to come out on the 25th for the derby.  Contact me
offline if you want to help out.  It's a good way to give back to the
community (I live in Sultan, so I'm partial to the east side Hwy 2), 
and
it's great fun to see little kids with HUGE fish on the end of their
poles.

The WDFW bulletin that names the lakes stocked with triploid trout for
the 2004 season lists a Tye Lake in Snohomish County. I've fished the
area for over fifty years now and I've never heard of a Tye Lake in
Snohomish County. There's a tiny Tye Lake ( 3 surface acres ) in the
alpine country NW of Stevens Pass, but that's in King County, and is 
the
source of the Tye River. Also, there's no mention of a Tye Lake in

Snohomish County in any of the fishing guides I have. Does anyone know
about this lake? Thanks!   Bob Martin
