ALF means “Anchovy Looking Fxxxer.”  That is what the Howes stated in the book “Innovative Saltwater Flies”.  Here is a recipe:

I did find one commercial pattern by searching on pumpkinseed and fly.  Might try that....anybody know how you would retrieve a pumpkinseed imitation??

I have used the same flies I tied as baby dorado for baja and they worked well enough that I didn't bother tying up any dedicated pumpkinseed flies.  They were ALFs.
