I would like to see the diagrams.
Thanks,

I don't use it either Bob, so you're not alone.
I picked up a second edition of Ray Bergman's classic book 'Trout' on Abebooks the other day (Good+ to excellent condition, with dust jacket, $12 delivered.) In one diagram, Bergman shows several ways of attaching dropper tippets to a leader using knots I'd never seen before. I wonder if such an approach might also work for attaching split shot in a way that would not damage the leader, allow adjustable placement, and the use of lighter tipper so that hang ups might break off?
If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to scan the diagrams and sent via email.

With all this talk of splitshot, it's beginning to sound like a bait-chucker's forum. I'm I the only one who never uses the stuff when fly fishing? I think the last time I used splitshot, I was twelve years old and fishing for perch in lake Sammamish. I crimped them on with my teeth and took them off with my jackknife, frequently slicing the leader in the process. Aren't beads and cones and lead wrapped shanks enough weight for fly fishermen? A leader with dangling splitshot has to be a killer to cast or even lob. I have enough trouble casting a line with an indicator, fly, and unweighted dropper. On the other hand, I undoubtedly catch fewer trout too because I don't always get the fly deep enough. Bob
I change my split shot frequently. I just use a pair of forceps. Grab the split shot right at the split and open it right up.
