I'm tentatively planning a trip to Rock Creek from 10/23 - 10/27. I'm hoping that those on the list that are knowledgable about Rock Creek at this time can answer a couple questions for me. I read some hatch charts and do not see any mention of October Caddis. Is Rock Creek really void of Octobers or are they there in small numbers? Trying to determine whether I should be tying pupa and orange stimulators for the trip. Also, I've heard and read of the excellent spawning run of browns from the Clark Fork this time of year. What I read was that the first 12 miles of river gets the concentration of browns. Do they really not run all the way up to the forks? My favorite water there is the 5 miles downstream of the forks but if the non-resident browns aren't up there I want to concentrate more effort on the lower river this time. I'm planning to nymph the usual patterns mostly (grhe, pt, prince, copper john). I will also be well set for baetis hatches as that's the one thing I believe is probable in terms of hatches. Any other specific hatches I should be aware of? Are the caddis pretty well done at this time? What about flows? I've read that October is a good time for wade-fishing. Do y'all think this is true? I'm sure it's plenty cold up there in late October and may rain or snow on us so I'll definitely be packing plenty of fleece, goretex and poly. Any other advice that might make the trip more successful and enjoyable? Thanks in advance and -tight lines- Jim
