I have a cabin up at Priest Lake. The main catch is Mackinaw or Lake Trout. There is a population of silvers as well. The Cutts are being restored in the lake. Years ago it was a great lake for big cutts, but after the Lakers were introduced the Cutts suffered. Their also is large mouth bass, and rainbows but their hard to find. Dolly's and Bull trout are also native to this area, and in the upper lake you can really get into some healthy ones if you put in your time. (its fly fishing only and C&R up their).
The river you were looking at that is closed to fishing is called the Throughfare. There is a trial that goes up to Upper Priest lake that takes off from that area that you were at. Comes out at Plowboy campground on Upper Priest lake. Some of the best fly fishing up there is on the little lakes around Priest lake. Muskegon lk, Case lk. are two that come to mind. Also, when its open, Upper Priest river is a great time with a 3wt.
