Had the same sort of day, Mark - I was at the River Bend junction in North
Bend - it was like a mid-September day - low water levels, warm breeze
blowing from the west, but I couldn't touch a trout to save my skin. 3
whitefish to hand, 9-11". Using a black beadhead pheasant tail and a black
and red chironomid about 7' under the bobber and 2 size 8 splitshot (I left
my size 4's in my steelhead vest). A nice pipeful of dark Cavendish and
life was pretty good.

I'm deeply worried about what this portends for the rest of the year,
though. Looks like water rationing is a foregone conclusion...

Question for the board - where will folks go with the water levels down and
the water temps up? I'm thinking of doing a lot of hiking for the
high-mountain lakes this summer and leaving the low flowing rivers alone
(and therefore not putting undue stress on the fish). I figure the
low-lying lakes will be stressed as well. I've only lived up here for 7
years, so I've never seen conditions like this. I'm sure some of the
long-timers on the board have seen similar times as these - what did you
folks do to keep the Jones off?

Sean

Subject: Middle Fork report 03/05/205

Hit the middle fork today from 9 - 1. Caught around 12 - 15 whitefish. All
small, 6 - 12 inch range. No trout. Used a bh zug bug, about 8 ft down, with
a size A splitshot. While it was fun to catch fish, it would've been more
fun had I had a 3wt.
