Yesterday I went down to a small spring creek and spent the day fishing for hungry cutts. I caught probably 12 or so cutts ranging from 4 inches to 15 inches. I used a kayak to paddle up the creek, which spooked a lot of fish, so my strategy was to paddle slowly up look for spooked fish and then once I spotted fish, paddle a little past the hole turn around and anchor myself in some weeds. I'd then hang out, for about 5 - 10 minutes till the fish started feeding. I'd then cast a black EHC out and skate it across the water. This would cause the cutts to go wild, slashing furiously after my fly. I noticed some small tent winged insects that would scoot across the water. Their wings were straight white and I think their bodies were black. Though I never could catch one. They aslso seemed to be able to dive back under the water. I was guessing these were maybe some sort of sedge? Anyone have any ideas? Anyways the cutts loved to eat these things and any that didn't make it off the water in a few seconds was promptly eaten. Anyway I attached some pictures for your viewing pleasure.
