Take it back to the dealer and ask for
replacement.

Subject: dry line memory problems
All, I bought some new dry line last year that was
recommended to me at Avid Angler. The line was supposedly at the higher
end of the quality curve (>$50). I didn't get a chance to fish it
much last year but have this year. I will admit to not removing from the
reel over the winter, my bad. The problem with the line is that no
matter how much I stretch it out, leave hanging in big loops, etc. the line
keeps relaxing into reel size loops. This really plays havoc with my
casting as the line lays on the water with all these loops which decouples the
fly to responding to strikes. Even if I strip in, the minute I stop the
line relaxes back into half curls about the size of the reel. Here is
what I have tried:
- In the field I have repeated stretched the line as one long section and
have done lots of sectional stretching (4-5' at a time)
- I setup the line suspended as two big loops in the backyard under slight
tension and left for several days
- Cleaned the line with a line cleaner
- Removed the line from the reel and looped in about 3' feet loops (this
looks like a big ball of loops with the line assuming the reel size loops)
for several weeks
Is there a method I haven't tried for getting this
line to lay flat or should I just junk it and buy some new line? (different
mfg this time)
Best Regards,
Russ
