Black electricians tape works best Mark. Two small parallel strips on 
each side of the rod across the ferrule then a spiral over the strips 
covering both sides of the ferrule. I have since quit taping after I 
got into the habit of periodically checking my ferrules during the 
fishing day.

I think I remember that some folks use a little bit of masking tape when
they setup to keep sections from slipping and preventing accidental breakage
of their rod, is that right?
