Very interesting.  This is the case when it's persistent, but I was
under the impression that the reports in this thread are transient.

I have put in a comic ton of code to deal with the insanity of bucket
naming and how to use the right calling conventions.  So far they seem
to work::

In any case I do think the backtrace is unnecessarily alarming
(WAL-E's hygiene there is not so good), so some reassurance to the
user and less ugliness would be good.
