Just so members are aware - we've had a run on RAM today ... if news has
filtered through here is the explanation -
"Since tuesday 6 Nov'01 memory prices have risen over 40%.
The prices rise is a consequence of Hynix's decision to upgrade several
fabs to improve yields of 128 Mbit chips used in the
production of 128 & 256Mbyte modules, leading to reduced availability in
these parts.
Micron, Samsung and Infineon have raised price in line with Hynix.
Taiwanese fabs have responded by withholding stock leading to a
virtual halt in shipments of all nobrand products."
Zytech will hold pricing for current stock but on the volume of orders
received today that's no longer than 24-48 hours. Some prices are
increasing as I mail this alert as stocks on some modules have been
fully depleted today.
