Thank you to all who replied with offers for used 56k modem. I now have
one on the way.
Thank you also to everyone who offered solutions to the dreaded flashing ?
problem since installing X.
The general concensus when all else failed was to spend an entire day
downloading all the updates and burn them to
CD/reformatHD/partition/install9/update9/installX/updateX/update Toast and
printer drivers etc.
I hope they included selecting your boot drive in the Startup Disk
control panel/preferences pane, as that's most likely the solution.
