It is possible your modem was deleted from the active network ports list in
the network system preferences. Go to the network system preferences panel
and choose active network ports from the drop down. Then, if the internal
modem is listed there make sure it has a tick in the box next to it. If it
is not there click on the New ... Button and add it back in. Then you
should be able to use it.
